Yarn Bombs

Lately I have noticed more and more yarn bombings in Philadelphia -

yarn bombs are like graffiti – they occur overnight, etc. and are random art installations  … and are normally done in bright colors, etc…. these “bombs” cover random things like bike posts, trees, etc…..

Today I saw this one near Rittenhouse Square….

I tried to find some other notes about other yarn bombs in Philadelphia (locations, etc.) nothing too cool was listed but I did find was the following photo – which I think is totally cool….  Looks like this is a bus somewhere in Asia…..

I am ready for all of our buses and cars to look like this….

Until that happens I will keep my eyes out for more yarn bombs…..

Bits and Pieces of My Weekend

Once again I was a shoobie and visited Atlantic City for the day….

A shoobie as defined by Urban Dictionary is:

“Regional nickname denoting a tourist to the southern New Jersey shore. This term originated in the 1920′s when tourists, visiting the beaches were easily identified by the shoeboxes the brought to carry their lunches.
2. n. Any person who looks out of place while at the beach. Usually identified by the wearing of black party socks with shorts and flip flops and/or a severe sunburn”

sidenote:  I was not wearing black socks – but I did leave with a little sun burn….

When the train dropped me in A.C.  - it was a little cloudy so I decided to visit WhiteHouse Subs – a hoagie/sub shop which has been open since 1946 and get some lunch…  I had heard about this shop on the Food Network/Philadelphia Mag/New York Mag…..

the bread is made at this bakery across the street from this shop.  This bakery was established in 1919!!!!!

The bread is delivered about 4 times a day.

Now I live in Philly – home of the cheesesteak and I have to say my turkey and cheese from Whitehouse Subs was REALLY YUMMY!

I packed up my sandwich and hit the beach – the sun finally came out – yeahoooo…

I try to set up near this beach bar – which has an awesome daytime dj ….

good tunes, sunshine, yummy sandwich – a good view of these good-looking lifeguards bringing in their rowboat, awesome water and waves…

after the beach I took a little walk on the boardwalk – the boardwalk in AC has some good stuff….

I said hello to a girl on a horse

and hello to Mr. Peanut

Sunday at work I made some granola and by some… I made enough for an army…  thank goodness for a nice air-conditioned kitchen….

Sunday night was spent with family – saw my Nieces – here’s Kayleigh – she just got her ears pierced a belated 10th Birthday gift…  cute!

Hope everyone had a great weekend – check out what Michelle and her family did this weekend www.6inthecity.com and add your own too!

Crayola ColorMe

I went to Target recently for a little retail therapy – I also needed some new binders as I am trying to organize bills and paperwork – owning a condo means saving so much paper!

The school supplies are out and I noticed the typical huge box of Crayola crayons…

On the top of the big box there was an add for turning digital photos into coloring pages….

I thought that would be a super fun project to do with my neices.

I bought the crayons and have started…..

The photo I am using for my first try:

After putting it through the crayola site I got this:

I am starting to color it now:

So easy ….. Can’t wait for Kayleigh and Megan to help me finish it….

P.S. – if you google crayolacolorme  there are several blogs which give you the code to use in order to turn your photos into coloring book pages…

Bits and Pieces of My Weekend…

This weekend was pretty mellow – I spent time in Medford, New Jersey where my parents live ..  it is always nice to get out of Philadelphia – especially because it has been so HOT in the city!

It rained on Saturday but after the rain I took a long walk …. these photos aren’t that great – but BIG TREES, silos, open space, breathing room, swing sets – FRESH AIR!!!!!!

I also spent some time with my college roommate Kim (she and her family live near my parents!) – we enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies win another game…. (the Phillies swept the first place Cincinnati Reds – YAHOOOO)

Gus – the Henson Family dog – CUTE!!!!

I worked this morning (6:30 a.m. is too early)….but got home in time to watch the final game of the World Cup – Viva Espana!!!!!!!!  The World Cup has been fun to watch – I will miss watching games… – I don’t think I will miss those vuvuzelas!

For dinner tonight I had a bowl of blueberries – which were grown about 7 miles from my parent’s house…

JERSEY FRESH & DELISH!!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend – check out what Michelle and her family did this weekend www.6inthecity.com and add your own too!

Phillies!!!!

Spent some time helping my parents today which included grocery shopping, uploading photos from their recent vacation and lots of other fun things….

As I was finishing up and going to leave to drive back to Philadelphia I turned to the family room where my Dad had the Phillies game on without the sound to see my beloved Phillies come from behind by scoring 5 points in the 9th inning to make the score a tie! 5 points!!!!!

Then in extra innings Ryan Howard hit a homerun to beat the Reds 9-7….

Perfect end to my Friday……..

Go Phillies!!!!!

Shoobies Shoobies Shoobies

The thermostat read 101 here in Philadelphia yesterday – and today promised to be even warmer….

I thought my parents would be in Long Beach Island – but due to my Dad’s surgery – he and my Mom were at home in Medford, New Jersey….

Which means I resorted to being a SHOOBIE – a shoobie by definition is a person who goes to the beach for the day.. way back when – a shoobie would bring their belongings to the beach in a shoebox – and would just come to the beach for the day…

So today I took the train to Atlantic City – yes that’s right – Atlantic City…

This is my secret beach spot.. I have learned to take the train $20.00 roundtrip… you can rent a nice beach chair and even an umbrella if you want for $10.00

30th Street Station – train was ON TIME!!!!!!!!

Atlantic City is like a city on the ocean with casinos – I walked through the Wild Wild West Casino to reach the beach – I am not a big gambler but I think if I were I would probably want to play this slot machine:

The beach was super fun, waves weren’t too bad – the water was REALLY cold which felt great great great…

I took a really long walk after the beach and before my train ride home

Atlantic City has a pretty big boardwalk – which offers just about something for everyone – one of the places I visited was Ocean One Mall – the biggest reason was because I wanted to get out of the heat and sit in the air condition for a little while…. This elephant was in a candy store and is made entirely out of jellybeans – YUM!

These stuffed bananas were everywhere – I am not sure I would want a big yellow stuffed banana – I also think you probably have to win some crazy basketball game with water balloons or something….

I had a great day being a Shoobie in AC!!!!!!!!

Twitter and Prayer

St. Jude is one of my favorite Saints – he is the Saint of serious illness and dramatic situations…

I have a Twitter account – that I like to use and I follow many people…

I am also following the National Shrine of St. Jude and it was very nice to receive the following e-mail:

This e-mail really made my day…  It’s nice to know people are praying for you….
